Making Bikes for the Future

As bikes are not only a great source of fun, but also a reliable and important resource for transportation, The Alternative Gallery is starting our very own program to help the youth of our city learn how to build and properly maintain a bicycle.

Learn more about our pilot program!

What is it?

The main goal of this program is to ensure that this knowledge is accessible to those who may need it, while also providing an enriching and engaging adventure for children as they accomplish the unique task of creating their very own bicycle. Not only is riding a bike you created on your own a rewarding experience, these handy skills can be transferred throughout so many tasks in life, in which many do not learn until adulthood. To start, we’re going to bring in a small group of kids from our neighborhood who are currently without bicycles and help them build their very own! This will serve as a pilot program for us to fund a larger, ongoing project which will be free to our city’s youth! For this pilot program, classes will be held weekly until students have successfully completed and are using their brand new bikes.
